Exodus 9 –11 – Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up [the mountainside], and they saw [a manifestation of] the God of Israel; and under His feet there appeared to be a pavement of sapphire, just as clear as the sky itself. He did not stretch out His hand against the nobles of the Israelites; and they saw [the manifestation of the presence of] God and ate and drank.
In today’s Bible study, we delved into the extraordinary account of Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel encountering the majestic, glorious and righteous God of Israel. This awe-inspiring meeting has left a profound impact on me. I have not been able to shake it or get it out of my mind. I cannot help but be moved by the magnitude of the experience. Just envisioning what it must have been like for these men to be in the presence of the Holy, glorious, eternal and everlasting Father of the Universe overwhelms me. Oh, my Lord! The mere thought of it wrecks me in a very good way! I stand in awe of Him!
In this account, Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the 70 elders had a remarkable experience of encountering the presence of God on Mount Sinai. As they ascended the mountain, they had a glimpse of the God of Israel. According to the text, they stood on a pavement of sapphire stone, witnessing the awe-inspiring sight beneath God’s feet. While they were on the mountain, they partook in a meal and drank, but they did not approach God directly. However, God summoned Moses to ascend even higher on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone containing the law and commandments.
Moses was accompanied by his assistant Joshua as they ascended to a higher elevation, shrouded in a cloud. The glory of God resided on the mountain for six days, concealed by the cloud. On the seventh day, God called out to Moses, who entered the cloud to meet with Him. Moses remained in the presence of God for forty days.
During this encounter, the glory of the Lord appeared as a consuming fire atop the mountain, witnessed by all the people of Israel. This remarkable scene visually showcased God’s divine majestic awe-inspiring presence and splendor.
My husband just reminded me that there was a significant fire associated with the Azusa Street Revival led by William Seymour.
May we be blessed with the profound experience of witnessing the manifestation of His Glory during our lifetime. May His presence and divine radiance illuminate our lives, filling us with awe, reverence, and a deep sense of His majesty.
