Honoring God: The Blessings of Revering the Almighty

As God’s creation, we have a profound obligation to honor and revere the Almighty. First and foremost, we should honor God because He is God – the sovereign, holy, and majestic Creator of the universe. The Scriptures make it clear that we are to ascribe to the Lord “the glory due his name” and “worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness” (Psalm 29:2). But the Holy Bible also promises extraordinary blessings for those who choose to honor and fear God. In 1 Samuel 2:30, the Lord declares, “Those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.” When we humble ourselves before the Lord and live in reverence of Him, He promises to exalt and lift us up.

Jesus echoes this sentiment, saying “If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him” (John 12:26). Those who devote themselves to serving and obeying Christ can expect to receive the Father’s blessing and commendation.

The Psalms further illuminate this truth, stating “He who offers a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving honors Me; And to him who orders his way rightly [who follows the way that I show him], I shall show the salvation of God.” (Psalm 50:23). When we offer genuine, grateful worship to God, He promises to bless us with His saving power and deliverance.

Perhaps most strikingly, the prophet Malachi declares that “for those who fear My name, the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings” (Malachi 4:2). Those who reverently fear the Lord can anticipate the dawning of Christ, the Messiah, who will bring healing, restoration, and new life.

In summary, the Scriptures make it clear that honoring God is not merely our duty, but a pathway to experiencing His favor, blessing, and salvation. When we humble ourselves before the Almighty and live in awe of His majesty, He promises to honor, deliver, and heal us.

May we aspire to honor God in all we do, that we might receive the fullness of His promises!
